Our 3 superstars are now having fun in Laos, in their bid to win Singapore's 23rd consecutive SEA Games Gold Medal. (Link) They're even on the cover page of yesterday's Straits Times.

So let's wish them the best of luck!

Fight back to School

Here's an interesting read. Might not be totally relevant to us students, but it does offer some life lessons.

Anyway, sponsors for NUS Open confirmed so far are Heeren Shops, Thorb and Naughty G. Negotiations with other sponsors are still in the works. We are also still looking out for other sponsors to spice up our event, so do let us know if there's any.

SUNIG Team list

Hello everybody,

Hope everybody's fine with school work and training!
After much consideration and discussion within the EXCO, the following are the players who will be playing for SUNIG:

1. Ken
2. Kenneth
3. Bi Wei
4. Bryon
5. Andre
6. Matthew
7. Mark Zhang
8. Jiale
9. Joel
10. Pinkie
11. Marcus Goh
12. Marcus Tan
13. Wei Nian
14. Ben Cai
15. Kenneth Foo
16. Bing Ren

The selection for SUNIG, as mentioned many times previously, is based on both merit and attendance. Additionally, we have decided to field a younger team this time round to allow the younger players to gain experience playing with the seniors and also in preparation for IRAUQ's team selection. This will allow us to have a fairer evaluation when the time comes.

For the rest, come down for training regularly! There's still IRAUQ and NUS Open to look forward to.

Regards,
Bryon

This is so that you can see for yourselves the standards of the other universities and have a proper idea of what to expect when we play them again in the NUS Open come January. Also, watching the games can also give you guys a better idea of the game with respect to how it is played competitively and the tactics employed.

From China, With Love

The Guangxi Women's Waterpolo team will be coming down to NUS for a friendly game on Friday, the 4th of September.

They will be playing a combined uni/poly team, but it will probably be dominated by our players, as after all, we are the reigning IVP champions.

Please be down at the pool by 430pm. There will be dinner provided after the game.

Those who are available from 3pm onwards, we will need your help in the setting up of the pool. Please volunteer your services.

nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10: Matthew Chew (1)

What more can be said of him that hasn't already been said yet? Seriously, did anyone doubt for a moment that it could be somebody else? Cleo Top 40. Stallion. Captain Fantastic. The list of superlatives goes on and on. He was even featured on a gay website. And who could forget his giant poster that was hung on the SRC wall facing the carpark?

The ultimate-NUS-Waterpolo-Posterboy!

The cocoa-hued hunk with the Angelina Jolie like lips has been the posterboy of the NUS Water Polo team over the past year or so, and there ain't no reason why he still shouldn't be. Heck, even girls from god-knows-where have "heard that the NUS Water Polo captain is quite a hunk." He is like a (wet) dream-come-true for girls, especially those with a weakness for waterpolo players or the "Sunshine Boys" type.

His sculpture of a body aside, Matthew is also quite a personality within the team. Spewing out jokes that threaten to turn the pool water into ice, Matthew is a welcomed presence amongst his teammates who have endured long days under the sweltering Singapore sun.

So as we approach the new academic year, we can feel comforted, safe in the knowledge that as long as Matthew is around, the glamour and sexiness of the team is in safe hands.

nuswaterpolo.blogspot now puts to a close what has been a very meaningful and rewarding week. We would like to wish everyone here a very happy National Day and start of the school term.

Study hard, train hard, play hard (And don't forget to congratulate Matthew when you see him).

We'll see you next time.

nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10: Marcus Tan (2)

If Marcus Tan has a superhero alter-ego, I bet my life it would be the invisible man. This chap has an uncanny ability of slipping under the radar and disappearing from the public eye (especially when training is concerned). So how the #@$% did he end up being number 2 on the nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10? Simple. When you're as awesome as Marcus Tan, you can get away with anything. Well, almost anything.

They look so happy together...

Marcus Tan's claim to fame is his facebook fan club. Anyone can train up to be a good sportsman and mug your ass off to top your class, but certainly, not everyone is born to have facebook fan clubs. It takes that little spark, that special something within only certain individuals, to be considered a member of that elite group which comprises dignitaries such as Brad Pitt and Kermit the Frog.

Apart from being the sexiest guy in Zouk, Marcus Tan also bears the distinction of having topped his class in Law School, finding the challenge too easy for his liking and jumping over to Medicine to find some new egos to beat down.

Somebody save them.

Thursday, August 6, 2009

nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10: Goh Jiale (3)

Pipping the little upstart Prawn King to the number 3 spot on the nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10 is the beer-guzzling hunk who drives around in his cool pimpvan.

Real man drinks one. He drinks two.

Jiale has been one of the lynchpins of the NUS Water Polo team over the past few years. In his capacity as team captain a couple of years ago, Jiale went about the thankless task of uniting a team comprising individuals from differing backgrounds and schools. Part of his legacy includes the appointment of a certain Cleo model as his successor.

Much time has passed since Jiale handed over the leadership mantle to the younger generation, yet he is still a regular at trainings and has many a word of advice to those willing to lend a ear.

And the sofa at the back of his van is really comfy.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10: Lin Diyang (5)

As we cross the halfway mark of our countdown to the ultimate-NUS-Water-Polo-posterboy, who should fall next into our list but Lin Diyang, the Cristiano Ronaldo of the NUS Water Polo team.

I use Colgate.

Always opting for the flamboyant instead of the simple, Diyang is the undoubted superstar (both in skills and personality) of the NUS Water Polo team. Boasting a full arsenal of turns, backshots and other tricksy skills, he will be flying our national colours during the upcoming SEA Games at Laos. A pity it clashes with our team's showing at the Indian-Rim Asian University Games in december, as Diyang will not be there to set Perth alight with his repertoire of audacious ball-skills.

Monday, August 3, 2009

nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10: Bryon Teo (6)

The less glamourous and not-so-oft-injured half of the Brothers of Destruction, Bryon has stood in the shadow of Andre for far too long. Now, the dam has burst and it is finally time for him to step up to the forefront and hold his own amongst giants.

I'd never look at a trip to the doctor's in the same light ever again.

As the successor to the team captaincy, Bryon has considerably big shoes to fill. Apart from having to feed and pacify a bunch of guys who constantly eat a lot, unashamedly demand free trunks/shirts/etc. and generally kaobei a lot (mostly for fun), now as the new figurehead of NUS Water Polo, he has to up his game a notch.

And is it just me, or is Bryon looking more and more like Andre?

Sunday, August 2, 2009

nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10: Teh Chong Nyen (7)

nuswaterpolo.blogspot has managed to squeeze Chong Nyen into this list just before he leaves us for the U S and A. We wish him a safe journey and hope to see him back with us ASAP. His presence will be sorely missed.

Stop staring at the girl lah.

Over the years, Chong Nyen has gone about setting the benchmark for what it takes to be an outstanding sportsman. An ever-present in the NUS Water Polo and Aquathalon teams, he has maintained the delicate balance between sports, schoolwork and the late-night eating/drinking sessions along Thomson Road.

And who could forget his posters that were being plastered all over school?

Saturday, August 1, 2009

nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10: Low Xi Zhen (8)

With a name like SeXiZhen, if you don't deserve to be on this list, no one does.

Frank Xinatra.

Nothing much is known about SeXiZhen except he doesn't often come for polo trainings, and that he is a busy med student.

But really, what a name.

Friday, July 31, 2009

nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10: Andre Teo (9)

What more can you ask for than having both brawns and brains? And that is how Andre Teo crashes into the nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10, his quick wit and sharp tongue impressing our judges sufficiently to bestow upon him a place in our list.

S for Sexy. Andre is gonna save you.

The lawyer-to-be cum Sexyman is well-known both for his outgoing personality as well as his astounding number of female friends (some not really friends, but hot hot hot nontheless), of whom pictures he might share with you if he is in the mood. We are really hoping that after reading this post, Andre will be impressed by all our praises and introduce some pretty girls to the lonely contributors behind nuswaterpolo.blogspot.

We wish Andre all the best, and pray earnestly that he will not injure his finger anytime soon. Or poke his eye. Or get punched. Oh well.

Thursday, July 30, 2009

nuswaterpolo.blogspot 10: Lin Diyan (10)

After a stellar performance in the AY08/09, Lin Diyan's gaze is now set on to become the region's top player at the upcoming SEA Games. Together with his brother Diyang, they both are poised to take on the world.

Tommy: Where's Pam?

At this year's NUS - Great Eastern WaterPolo Challenge 2009, Diyan was a mainstay throughout the tournament and put in a series of match-winning performances, culminating in him bagging the Most Valuable Player award.

His humble demeanor and jolly personality has endeared himself to his peers, which just allowed him to squeeze into the top 10 sexiest player list. Yes, he might not be the connoisseur's choice (that would be marcus tan or something), but it's hard to deny such a nice person a shot at the limelight (and also because andre die die wanted him, hehe).

And so, we have started the ball rolling. Watch out this space over the next 9 days for more sexy people.

Counting down...

The Sexiest Water Polo Players of AY08/09.

As we approach another new school year, nuswaterpolo.blogspot is looking back on 12 months of fabulous water polo by selecting the sexiest players of the last 2 semesters.

Our contributors have come together to choose the best bods and personalities from within the team.

Will Diyan and Matthew be leading the charge?

The series kicks off on Thursday, 30th July, and will reveal a new player each day, until the ultimate-NUS-Water-Polo-posterboy is revealed on Friday, 8th July.

As the countdown continues, we also want to know what you, the readers, think of each player. Did Matthew Chew deserve to make Cleo Top 40? Are the raving fan-club comments on Marcus Tan deserved? Were Andre and Bryon really deserved of their moniker of the Brothers of Destruction? Leave a comment below each article and tell nuswaterpolo.blogspot what YOU think, and who your favourite Sexiest Water Polo Player would be…

On another note, there will be training on tuesday and thursday evening. Please come on time, at 1930.

SUNIG is coming up real soon. Don't take it for granted we will breeze through the tournament. Once again, I have to stress the importance of thursday trainings. And IRAUG isn't that far off either.

I'll be BACK!

Not quite Arnold.

Gareth Gu has sprained his back (he just got out of A & E) and will be MIA for a while. Before you evil guys start snickering at his hapless plight, let's all put our hearts together and wish him a speedy recovery. So

Get Well Soon, Gareth! We'll Miss You!

Monday, July 6, 2009

Listen to Benji, you Jabronis!

Game at SA on Saturday, 1030am

We have been cordially invited to a friendly match against the SAJC team on Saturday. It will be a good opportunity for everyone to chalk up some playing time, especially those who didn't turn up for training on Thursday (= a lot of people).

NYP and a few SA old boys (e.g. the SMU Captain) will also be going down, so if you want a piece of the action, please feel free to join in the fun.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Dear All,

A big thank you to all the people who came down to help out during the Sports Camp. I know some of you may have been sorely disappointed with the lack of playing time, and thus I offer you my deepest sympathy and sincerest apologies.

To make up for today's afternoon, I am going to reveal 2 shocking revelations:

1. Bryon's nickname in med school is "Little Peanut".
2. There will be training tomorrow and on thursday at 1930. SRC pool.

Furthermore, Bryon and Matthew got gang-raped by a Ku Klux Klan wannabe mob at the poolside. If you guys had seen it, you would have felt that the day was indeed well spent!

Saturday, June 27, 2009

Sports camp on Monday, 29th June

Be there at the pool at 1315. We need to mend the nets, set up goalposts, etc. before the thing actually starts.

We still need to stump up our numbers. If you happen to be free on monday afternoon, don't think twice, just come down. If you die die need to leave early, we can work something out, but the crucial period is from 1345 to 1430, in which we need as many people as possible.

Those who indicated that they would be turning up are: Bingren, Mark, Bai, Joel, Stamford, Matthew, Bryon, Ken, Melvin, Kok Yong, Myself, Cherkun and Roy.

If you haven't indicated your attendance, but can make it on that day, post on the tagboard so we know.

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

i reckon we all have ended our official school curriculum. as we start on our study week, i just want to wish all of you guys the best for your coming papers. study hard!

and another announcement also.
i am currently looking at the 9th of may for a team meeting. i will require everyone to be present. it is on a saturday. i think most, if not all, of you guys will have ended your examinations by then. i am either looking at meeting you gentlemen in school, with a proper meeting location. OR we could all go out for a lunch (buffet, or something along the lines of large amounts of food), and of course meet over lunch. please do tell me your preferences of either choice and if so, suggestions for location. i am open to suggestions. if not, we can all go back to school after exams, WHICH is damn sian. haha.
also, the meeting will have to take place on the 9th, as on the 10th onwards, some of the guys will be going overseas for the teamNUS Summit. so i would want to catch everyone before people stream away.

do post your suggestions or replies ASAP, either through mails or of course here.
